~SEASON 1~
It’s a long strange trip. Twenty-two years ago, a supernatural incident killed their mother, and changed their lives forever. Now, brothers Sam and Dean Winchester travel the country hunting weird and evil things, in the hope of finding their missing dad and unearthing the truth about the demon that kills the people they love.
Woman in White – Dean arrives at Sam’s dorm, telling him that their father, John, went on a hunting trip and is missing. Sam reluctantly joins Dean. Following their father’s trail to Jericho, California, they defeat a Woman in White, a spirit luring unfaithful men to a horrible death. Clues in John’s journal lead to Colorado, but Sam has other plans.
Not again – Sam returns to school and a normal life. After Dean drops him off, Sam lies down, awakened by a drop of blood. On the ceiling, his girlfriend, Jess, is pinned, bursting into flames just like Sam’s mother, years past. Dean rescues him. Sam realizes that the only way to catch whatever killed Jessica is to find his dad.
Missing camper – Coordinates in John’s journal direct the boys to Blackwater Ridge, Colorado, where Haley Collins’ brother, Tom, has recently disappeared. Dean and Sam discover hikers have gone missing there nearly every 23 years. They question a lone survivor from an earlier attack. He wasn’t attacked by a bear, but by a roaring monster that moved too fast to see.
Hidden – The Winchesters join Haley and her younger brother, Ben, who have hired a guide to help them find Tom. Reading John’s journal, Sam realizes they may be hunting a Wendigo – a less-than-human thing that is always hungry. It stores live victims as food in a dark hidden place. Tom may be alive, but they may be the hunted, rather than the hunters.
Torched – That night, the camping party is attacked by something that speaks in a human voice. It kills the guide. The next morning, the Wendigo returns, capturing Haley and Dean, who leave a trail of candy. Sam follows it, finding Dean, Tom and Haley in an abandoned mine. When the Wendigo returns to feed, Dean lures it away, burning it with a flare gun.
Witness – Dean and Sam investigate a mysterious drowning in Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin, and discover it is one of many in the area. The local sheriff is uncooperative. His son-in-law was an earlier drowning victim. His grandson, Lucas, was a witness and hasn’t spoken since. He draws a picture of a house for Dean, who investigates the clue.
Tub terror – The Winchesters check out the house, and learn that a boy, Peter, was drowned in the lake thirty-five years ago. Bill Carlton, Peter’s friend rows out to the lake and is taken under. Is Peter’s spirit satisfied? As the Winchesters prepare to leave, Dean stops to see Lucas. They find him frantic and save his mom from drowning in her bath.
Saved – Sam discovers the secret – both Sheriff Jake and Bill Carlton were responsible for Peter’s death. Lucas goes near the lake, and is lured in by the boy’s vengeful spirit. Lucas’ granddad, the sheriff, sacrifices himself to save the boy and his mother. Dean retrieves Lucas from the deep. Later, Lucas begins to speak, giving Dean a high five declaring “Zeppelin rules!”
Demon message – Sam and Dean are called by a friend of their dad’s who needs help. A recent air crash with only seven survivors shows signs of demonic interference. A demon is trying to eliminate all the survivors. Despite Dean’s fear of flying, he and Sam board a flight to perform an exorcism. With the help of one survivor – a flight attendant – they find the co-pilot is possessed.
In-flight feature – The demon recognizes Sam, and talks about Jessica’s death. With Dean’s help, Sam proceeds to the most dangerous part of the exorcism. After leaving the human body, the demon is more powerful than ever. It takes possession of the plane, until Sam completes the ritual, sending the demon back to hell.

After leaving the human body, the demon is more powerful than ever. It takes possession of the plane, until Sam completes the ritual, sending the demon back to hell.
Vengeful – In Toledo, there are killings related to the legend of Bloody Mary. Victims with secrets related to killings have their eyes torn out, whether or not they call for Bloody Mary. Investigating, Sam and Dean discover an unsolved murder of a woman whose killer went unpunished. Is this Bloody Mary taking vengeance on others?
Guilty – Sam and Dean find that Mary Worthington tried to write her killer’s name on a mirror as she died. They find the mirror in a warehouse. Sam lures Mary with his guilty knowledge that he could’ve prevented Jess’ death. Before Sam is overcome, Dean smashes the original mirror, and eliminates Mary by making her face her own reflection.
Forgiven – Sam suggests to young Charlie that she probably wasn’t responsible for her boyfriend’s death, reminding her that bad things sometimes happen. As they leave Toledo, Dean tries to get Sam to talk about his visions, but Sam remains quiet. As they drive away, he sees Jess’ spirit, watching him.
Killer – In St. Louis, a SWAT team closes in. A woman is held captive by an armed assailant – Dean Winchester. Is it possible? One week earlier, Sam and Dean respond to a request from Rebecca, the sister of Sam’s college friend, Zach. He was charged with murdering his girlfriend, although Becky swears that he was with her.
Shapeshifter – A security video shows Zach just before the murder. Sam and Dean realize they are dealing with a shapeshifter when another assault occurs not far away. They follow a trail into the sewer, where they see the shapeshifter. He runs away. The shapeshifter copied Dean, then clobbers Sam after he realizes the truth.
End of the line – Later, the shapeshifter tells Sam that Dean is secretly jealous of Sam. It leaves in Dean’s form to find Rebecca. Sam gets free, finds the real Dean and sends the police to save Rebecca. Dean eventually kills the shifter – who masqueraded as Rebecca, then Dean - as it attacks Sam. The authorities blame killings on Dean Winchester, who is now officially dead.
Dem bones – Sam and Dean make a detour into college life when a fraternity brother is murdered, his bloody body hanging from a tree, just like in the legend of the hook man. Sam gets close to the witness, minister’s daughter Lori Sorenson, although her dad disapproves. Dean finds the bones of the original Hook Man, Jacob Karns, and he salts and burns them.
Gift – Another killing occurs around Lori. Despite Dean’s actions, the Hook Man attacks Rev. Sorenson. The brothers realize that Karn’s spirit must be residing in his hook, which was given to the church. They destroy every silver object in the church and find Lori, praying. She wears an heirloom cross – a gift from her father.
Destroyed – Lori’s guilt draws Hook Man to her. He chases her through the church as Sam and Dean try to fight him off. Finally, Sam remembers Lori’s necklace. He grabs it, tossing it in the fire. As it melts, the Hook Man burns as well.
Overrun – In the elegant development Oasis Plains Estate, disturbing events are happening: people are dying by attacks of insects. Dean and Sam meet the real estate proprietor, Larry Pike and his son, Matt. Father and son clash, a dynamic Sam understands.
Skull – Matt knows a lot about bugs, and shows Sam and Dean the odd congregation of various species of insects. In the midst of a bug-ridden pit, Dean finds a human skull. Dean and Sam talk about family matters and Dean reveals how John watched out for Sam at school, despite their angry parting.
Fire up – Investigating the skull, they discover a curse placed on the valley after the U.S. Cavalry eliminated the native residents. Sam and Dean arrive at the Pike’s too late to evacuate them, so they hold siege against the insects, using bug spray and fire until the curse ends in the morning.
Agressor – Sam’s nightmare leads the brothers back to Lawrence, Kansas. A single mom, Jenny, is living in their childhood home with her two children. Frightening events are occurring. Local psychic Missouri Mosley identifies an evil poltergeist in the house. As they prepare a ritual, the poltergeist nearly strangles Sam.
Protector – The house sees to be cleansed but Sam is uneasy. The evil spirit attacks Jenny – just like in Sam’s vision. Jenny and the kids are safe when the evil spirit traps Sam in the house. A fiery figure appears – the spirit of Mary Winchester. With a burst of mystical energy, she commands the poltergeist away from her son and out of her house forever.
Ramblin’ man – Missouri tells Sam and Dean that the house is free of all spirits – Mary’s energy cancelled out the poltergeist, but she is also gone, sacrificing herself for her boys. Sam and Dean leave, and Missouri demands to know why her houseguest, John Winchester, didn’t talk to his sons. Pained, he says he needs to learn the truth.
Brainwashed – A text message from John sends Dean and Sam to the Roosevelt Asylum, haunted for years after the patients of Dr. Sanford Ellicot rioted. The Winchester brothers help two teenagers trespassing on the grounds. While Dean finds information about the dead psychiatrist, his spirit attacks Sam.
Sibling rivalry – Influenced by Dr. Ellicot, Sam voices his resentments and angrily shoots Dean. Luckily, the gun was filled with rock salt. Dean gives Sam his gun and tells him to shoot for real. The gun isn’t loaded, and Dean slugs Sam into unconsciousness.
Exit – Dean finds Sanford Ellicot’s mummified remains in a cabinet. He manages to completely destroy the bones just as Ellicot’s spirit attacks again. Later, Sam tries to apologize, and Dean is too exhausted to talk. He falls asleep, and Sam picks up the phone. It’s their dad.
Expert – John calls his boys, sending them on a mission to investigate missing couples in an Indiana town. When Sam doesn’t want to go, Dean leaves him and investigates on his own. A local expert tells him about the Scarecrow God – the Vanir – and the ancient tree that gives it the power to protect the town.
Captives – As Dean leaves, he’s knocked out by the sheriff and is held captive with Emily, the niece of a local couple. They will be sacrificed to the Scarecrow. Having had a change of heart, Sam returns. He sets them loose, but they are recaptured.
Bad to the bone – The Scarecrow arrives and kills Emily’s aunt and uncle, as Dean, Sam and Emily run. The next day, Emily destroys the Vanir’s tree. Later, Sam’s hitchhiking companion, Meg, takes a ride from a lecherous driver. She slits his throat, using his blood to communicate with a demonic father.
Blown away – Dean and Dam are hunting a rawhead, armed with tasers set to kill. Dean electrocutes the monster, but sustains terminal injuries to his heart. Sam calls John and leaves a message, then desperately searches for a cure. When Dean leaves the hospital to die at home, Sam takes him on the road.
Fear the reaper – Sam brings Dean to a faith healer, Roy Le Grange. He restores Dean’s health because he senses he has an important job to do. As Dean is healed, he sees a reaper – a spirit that gives and takes life. Someone else died in his place. Dean and Sam discover that Le Grange’s wife is secretly manipulating the reaper.
Miracles – Knowing the truth, Dean prevents Layla from being healed, even though she has only months to live. When Le Grange’s wife tries to set the Reaper on Dean, Sam destroys her altar and the Reaper turns on her. Later, Layla says farewell. She has made peace with her fate, and perhaps given Dean a bit of faith.
Phantom truck – When Cassis Robinson’s dad is killed in a car accident, she calls her friend Dean. Cassie, explains that her father had seen a black phantom truck following him, and that his best friend had died a few days earlier in the same sort of accident. Cassie says that a ghost truck is in Dean’s line of work.
Cassie’s plea – Sam is shocked that Dean discussed the family business. When another of Mr. Robinson’s friends dies, Cassie’s mother reveals old secrets. Cyrus Dorian dated her until she left him for Cassie’s father, who killed Cyrus in self-defense. Cyrus’ racist spirit was recently disturbed and he went on another killing spree.
Hallowed ground – Sam and Dean recover Cyrus’ truck from the swamp and burn his body, but the ghost truck has a mind of its own. Dean lures it away and it chases him to a place Sam sends him, where it disappears. The hallowed ground of a church Cyrus burned years ago barred the spirit’s passage.
These dreams – Sam’s visions are getting stronger. He has a premonition of a man dying in a parked car, but he and Dean can’t prevent it. Visiting the bereaved Miller family, there is no sign of supernatural activity, but Sam sees Roger’s death. They arrive too late. Questioning the neighbours, it seems that the Millers were a troubled family.
Payback – Max, the Miller’s teenaged son, has been violently abused since childhood. Sam realizes his visions are of Max, who has telekinetic powers. Before Max can kill his stepmother, the Winchesters intervene. Max says his father began beating him after his mother’s death – she died when he was a baby, in the same way as Sam’s mom.
Finale – Sam tries to reach out to Max, but the boy is too tormented. He shuts Sam in a closet. Stricken with a vision of Dean’s death, Sam saves Dean by using telekinesis to free himself. Emotionally scarred, Max turns the gun on himself. Later, Sam and Dean puzzle over the similarities – and saving differences of their families.
Captured – Sam and Dean are investigating a mysterious disappearance when Sam is suddenly abducted. He awakens in a cage. Masquerading as Sam’s cousin, a policeman, Dean enlists the help of a local police officer, Kathleen. Her brother disappeared years ago and was never found. Kathleen discovers Dean’s story is bogus but agrees to find Sam before arresting Dean.
People – Sam meets his fellow captive – it’s Alvin Jenkins, the guy he was searching for. When Jenkins’ cage door opens, Sam fears it’s a trap, but Alvin takes off. Sam is surprised to discover their captives aren’t demons or monsters, but people – crazy people who hunt humans like prey and keep a trophy wall of their killings. Kathleen leaves Dean behind and investigates the Bender’s home where she’s captured.
Justice – Dean finds Sam and Kathleen but gets caught. The Benders decide to eliminate their captives. Sam gets free and turns the Benders against each other. Looking for Dean, Sam leaves Kathleen alone with Bender senior. Kathleen asks why he killed her brother. Laughing, he admits it was fun. Kathleen reports he was shot trying to escape.
Meg’s doom – Gruesome murders in Chicago may lead Sam and Dean closer to their demonic prey. Meg, Sam’s acquaintance from the road, is also in town, which seems suspicious when they discover the victims were from Lawrence, Kansas. Sam finds Meg conjuring shadow demons called Daevas. Meg traps the Winchester brothers, but they get free, destroying Meg’s dark altar. The Daevas turn against Meg.
Trap – Sam and Dean return to their room. John is waiting for them. He avoided Meg’s warehouse, suspecting a set-up, but saw her fall to her death. Suddenly, the shadow demon attacks, directed by Meg – clearly inhuman. Sam detonates a flash grenade dispersing the Daeva. The Winchesters manage to escape.
Farewell – Sam wants them to make a hasty exit, but Dean interrupts. He wants nothing more than a reunited family, but realizes Meg was right: they are their father’s weak spot. John is vulnerable when he worries about the safety of is sons, and they need to be at peak fighting strength to combat the Demon. They separate.
Ghost hunters – Checking out reports of a dead body found in a haunted house, Sam and Dean interview thrill-seeking high school students lured by the legend of Mordechai Murdock. Later, they encounter Ed and Harry, who claim to be supernatural investigators, although they seem more interested in self-promotion. Their website, Hellhoundslair.com featured the haunted house.
Axe man – Researching the legend, Sam and Dean conclude Ed and Harry sensationalized the facts – until a girl is found dead in the house. Returning, they are nearly slaughtered by and axe-toting Mordechai, who is immune to rock salt. Reviewing the latest online posts describing Mordechai, Sam and Dean realize they are dealing with a tulpa – a thought form created by the belief of many.
Deleted – Sam and Dean plant information on the Hellhound site, planning to alter the Tulpa so it can be killed with iron rounds. Unfortunately, the site crashes, keeping the new information from entering the collective consciousness. Dean handles the situation by burning down the house – Mordechai can’t haunt a place that doesn’t exist.
Watch out – John sends Sam and Dean to a town in Wisconsin where kids are dying from a strange illness that attacks siblings. When they find a scary handprint on a windowsill, Dean has a flashback of John and his most important instruction: to watch out for Sammy. Dean tells Sam they were sent to finish the job John started years ago.
Old business – John hunted a Shtriga, a kind of witch that feeds off the life force of children. Nearly impossible to kill – unless feeding – it is usually disguised as a human. Doing research, Sam discovers that Dr. Heidecker, who is treating the comatose children today, is the same doctor who was on the scene in Black River, Wisconsin… in 1893.
Innocence lost – Dean reveals that Sam was nearly taken by the Shtriga years ago. They set a trap, using the son of the motel proprietor as bait. He bravely agrees if it might save his stricken younger brother, and waits for the monster. After being stunned, the Shtriga revives and attacks Sam. Dean shoots it point blank. Checking on Sam, Dean fires again, to be sure.
Enduring – When a couple is mysteriously killed in their home, Dean and Sam investigate. Several similar murders in the area are mentioned in John’s journal. They decide a painting of the Merchant family – currently at the auction house – must be cursed. Dean and Sam burn it, but are shocked to see it as good as new the next day.
Clues – Sam gets along well with Sarah Blake, the daughter of the auction house owner. When the cursed painting is sold again, Sarah accompanies Dean and Sam to the new owner’s place, only to find another body. Legend has it that their father, Isaiah, murdered the Merchant family. Sam notices the family portrait has subtlety changed over years – does it hold a secret.
Dolly – Attempting to break the curse, Dean salts and burns the remains of Isaiah Merchant, but that only releases the spirit of his evil adopted daughter – who he pointed to in the painting. The spirit of the murderous little girl hunts Sam and Sarah, as Dean searches the Merchant family crypt. Sarah realizes that the doll they saw at the crypt had human hair – Dean races to burn it, saving them.
Teeth – Eccentric Daniel Elkins is killed when rowdies invade his home. Sam and Dean check it out and find the old man left a letter addressed to John Winchester, who suddenly appears. He tells the boys that Daniel Elkins was killed by what he hunted – vampires – real bloodsuckers, with teeth.
Friction – Friction breaks out between John and Sam. He is tired of blindly following orders, and wants to know what the vampires have that they want. John finally tells them about a mystical gun that could kill any evil thing: particularly the Demon that killed their mother.
One less bullet – The vampires wake before the Winchesters can get the gun. Working alone, John poisons the mate of the vampire leader and bargains her release for the gun. The plan goes bad. The boys defy John’s orders and come to his aid. Sam is taken hostage by the head vampire, and John uses the mystical gun to save his son. They will fight the Demon together.
Halted – John tells his sons everything he knows about the Demon. Meg wants the gun, and will kill all of John’s allies until she gets it. John goes to meet Meg with a fake gun. Another demon tests it by shooting Meg. John escapes by creating a flood of holy water that temporarily stops his pursuers.
Saved – Sam has a vision of another family who will be attacked by the Demon. He and Dean take the mystical gun and prepare for a showdown. Sam tries to say goodbye, but Dean won’t consider failure. As the attack begins, Sam shoots at the Demon but it suddenly disappears. They got the family safely out of the house just before it bursts into flames.
Lost – John does not get far before Meg’s male demon companion captures him. Worried about their father, the boys call his cell phone and get no response. Sam regrets not finishing off the Demon. Dean argues that it would’ve been suicide. Calling John’s cell phone again, Dean hears Meg threaten that they’ll never see their father alive again.
Exorcism – Sam and Dean make John’z rescue their first priority. Family friend and fellow hunter, Bobby helps them prepare a trap for Meg. With Meg bound by a mystic sigil, they begin an exorcism to get answers, although the process will kill the girl. As the demon is driven out, human Meg dies. She thanks the boys for her release and mentions John’s location.
Possessed – Sam and Dean fight a crowd of possessed humans to rescue John. When the male demon attacks Sam, Dean uses the mystical gun to kill Meg’s demon brother. Later, Dean correctly guesses that John is possessed: his real father would’ve been angry over the loss of another rare bullet. The Demon tortures Sam and Dean, gloating over their helplessness.
Sam’s choice – John’s love for his sons temporarily overpowers the will of the Demon, giving Sam time to grab the gun and wound John in the leg. He begs Sam to kill him, destroying the Demon. Sam hesitates. Then the Demon – in a swirl of black smoke – leaves John’s body. Seriously wounded, the Winchesters escape. As they debate their next move, a semi truck violently crashes into them.
